{"id":6917,"date":"2024-07-06T08:59:07","date_gmt":"2024-07-06T14:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alchapters.org\/san-luis-obispo-county\/?page_id=6917"},"modified":"2026-02-13T19:07:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T02:07:13","slug":"about-the-thrift","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/alchapters.org\/san-luis-obispo-county\/about-the-thrift\/","title":{"rendered":"About the Thrift"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h1>About the Thrift<\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"margin-top: 50px;\">OUR WHY:<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Established in 2015, our Thrift Store is one facet of our mission driven, member-led organization: The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/alchapters.org\/san-luis-obispo-county\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;100% of profits \u2013 together with the generosity of many supporters \u2013&nbsp; fund two key initiatives:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alchapters.org\/san-luis-obispo-county\/operation-school-bell\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Operation School Bell (OSB)&nbsp;<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We help to clothe school age children in need. Students who are referred by their educators to our organization are able to shop for free, new school clothes with one of our two retail partners, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kohl\u2019s Paso Robles or Old Navy San Luis Obispo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In 2024-25, we clothed 2,121 students!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alchapters.org\/san-luis-obispo-county\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/02\/ACE-FULL-ANNOUNCEMENT-v2.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Access to Career Education (ACE)&nbsp;<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An annual scholarship award of $10,000 to Cuesta College provides funding for required tools and materials to students in need who are enrolled at the college in career education\/trades programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>OUR VOLUNTEERS:<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County is managed and run exclusively by our member volunteers. Our thrift store is staffed solely by volunteers, who typically donate a dozen hours per month to the store.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volunteer roles in the store include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helping customers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sorting donations<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cleaning and pricing items<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stocking shelves and clothing racks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Curating displays<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cashiering<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintaining our beautiful store!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;6919&#8243;
